Jennifer O’Connell at Highland Elementary School

With her 19-foot hand-drawn whale tail as a backdrop, Jennifer O’Connell enchanted 4th graders with the details of a true rescue story, as well as how she conducted the research and created the art for her exciting book, The Eye of the Whale.  During this interactive presentation, the students learned about science, bookmaking, and art.  They watched Jennifer sketch whales in pastels while listening to soothing music.  And for the grand finale, Jennifer unfurled a 23-foot canvas painting of a newborn baby blue whale to audible gasps from her appreciative young audience.
